The franchise began as a 2004 film, before spinning off into a television series starring Britton and Kyle Chandler.
"[Executive producer] Pete [Berg] is totally fired up to do it and I know [fellow exec] Jason Katims is talking about writing a script," Britton told US Weekly. "I think it's really a matter of… getting everyone's busy schedules aligned and making it happen."
The actress, who currently stars in new FX drama American Horror Story, played Tami Taylor from 2006 to 2011 and also appeared in a different role in the first Friday Night Lights movie.
"It kind of feels like there's a lot of commitment to [a new film]," she said. "I for one will do my part in trying to push it along."
Jason Katims previously admitted that he is excited about the possibility of a Friday Night Lights film.
"We had some meetings and we came up with a direction that we really loved," he explained earlier this year. "The trick was to figure out a way to both honour the series and not move away from that, but still find something that would be a satisfying movie in and of itself."
The final episode of Friday Night Lights aired on February 9.
