Bruce Helford revealed more details about the FX project, which was recently picked up for ten episodes, reports Deadline.
"It's all about Charlie's life as a therapist who has as many or more problems than his patients," he explained. "He is a guy who has anger issues and wants to work on them."
Helford, who will write and executive produce the series, described Sheen as "a bigger-than-life character" and "a strong actor".
"[Charlie] was really anxious to get back to work and do something smarter, I think that was very important to him," he suggested.
"He is a strong actor. He hasn't had an opportunity to tap into that in a while, but he is capable of playing much more complicated characters."
Sheen recently revealed that he is not impressed with the latest season of his old CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, which now stars Ashton Kutcher.
"I'm extremely disappointed with how they're handling what I left behind," said the star.
Anger Management will debut on FX in summer 2012.
