FX has ordered a second season of American Horror Story.

The cable channel will air 13 episodes of the new drama-horror show created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

President and General Manager of FX Networks John Landgraf said: "It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience - it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up.

"Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

American Horror Story tells the story of a small family who moves from Los Angeles to Boston in a haunted mansion.

The show stars Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Jessica Lange, Denis O'Hare, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Larry Harvey, Shelby Young, Alexandra Breckenridge, Evan Peters and Jamie Harris.

American Pie actress Mena Suvari will appear in the ninth episode of American Horror Story for a guest role.

Zachary Quinto also landed a guest role in the show. The Star Trek actor appears in at least four episodes, starting with a two-part Halloween-themed episode.

The first part aired on October 26 and the second part will air on November 2.
