'Ugly Betty's Vanessa Williams signs ABC holding deal

Vanessa Williams has signed a holding deal with ABC that will see her appear in a new series next year.

The actress and singer has starred in two of ABC's leading drama series for the last six years. After starring in four seasons of Ugly Betty, she joined the main cast of Desperate Housewives last year.

The holding contract will attach Williams to either an hour-long or half-hour project aimed for next autumn, according to Deadline.

Desperate Housewives will come to an end after its current eighth season next year.

Williams said last year that she was devastated by the cancellation of Ugly Betty.
