The Peacock Network has ordered a one-hour pilot episode of the sitcom, according to TVLine.
Showrunner Bryan Fuller - whose previous credits include Pushing Daisies and Heroes - told the publication: "I am over the moon [that] Eddie Munster will soon be howling at."
The original series of The Munsters ran on CBS for 70 episodes between September 1964 and May 1966.
It was first reported in August that the classic show - which features a five-strong family of monsters - would be revived. The project has been in development since September 2010.
It was also reported last week that Fuller's proposed series Hannibal, based on the character of Hannibal Lecter, is on track to be approved by NBC.
