The Life's Too Short comic explained that he is returning to present the 2012 ceremony to silence those who fuelled the controversy surrounding his hosting of this year's event.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, he revealed: "Mainly I did it to shut those people up, who thought that it was the end of my career, and that everyone was outraged and I was banned from America.
"It's been the end of my career once a week for the last ten years, and whenever there's a scandal, it's always the end of my career. It's ridiculous."
Gervais continued: "I shouldn't be doing it for the 20 egos in the room; I should be doing it for the 200 million people watching at home. So I'm going to do it this year.
"I'm going to do that this year, so I'd say to people in the room, 'Be afraid'. I don't know where these people are who are so horrified. But if they were, I don't care either.
"Win, lose or draw, it makes no difference to me doing the Golden Globes. Come Monday morning, I'll be writing something else."
