Oprah Winfrey has announced plans for a new talkshow to air on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

The presenter will return to her roots with Oprah's Next Chapter, which will see her interview celebrities in their own homes.

Winfrey left her long-running Oprah Winfrey Show in May after 25 years, and will premiere the new programme on January 1.

The first episode will feature an interview with American Idol judge Steven Tyler at his New Hampshire home.

Winfrey revealed: "After 25 years I got myself out of the studio chairs. I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever - moving around the country and the world talking to people I'm really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too."

The series will also feature interviews with Star Wars director George Lucas and Milk actor Sean Penn.

OWN has been struggling to make money since it launched in January.
