Tina Fey has announced her imminent departure from Saturday Night Live in order to work on a new sitcom.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Fey told the audience that she would not be returning to her position as head writer and co-anchor of the "Weekend Update" segment on the comedy show.
Access Hollywood quotes her as joking: "I'm not going to do 'Saturday Night Live' any more. I wish I could...I wanted to stop doing 'Saturday Night Live' so I could spend more time with Star Jones."
Instead the Mean Girls writer will begin work on a new comedy series entitled 30 Rock. "The new show's going to take a lot of time," Fey stated.
