The comedy, which also stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase, will go on hiatus from early 2012.
"NBC is a business [and] they have to make business decisions," Brown told The Hollywood Reporter. "This goes beyond what executives there feel about the show. The executives there love our show."
She continued: "One of the executives came to our table read two days later with a 'Save Community T-shirt that they made themselves.
"This is someone who's kind of in the process with us and knows that it's not ideal that we're not on the air."
Brown admitted that the future of Community is uncertain, but insisted that the remainder of the show's third season will air.
"What's great is that we do get to finish the season," she said. "If they had cut back our [episode] order, I would say that may be the nail in the coffin. But, we get to finish. So, there's always a chance we'll come back next year."
Community continues on Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC.
