The Extra host revealed that he loves his job but tries hard not to portray the subjects of his stories in a negative light where possible.
"I like being able to be myself and just hang out with people all day. I love hosting, whether it's barbequing or TV shows. I just like people!" he explained to Parade.
"Yeah, it gets difficult, especially when it's not the best of news. But it's my job and I don't try to do anything in a salacious way. I just report on it, move on and try to put a positive spin on it if I can."
Lopez also reflected on his experience as a reality star during his 2010 show Mario Lopez: Saved By the Baby with girlfriend Courtney Mazza, adding: "I just wanted to show people my journey into being a first-time father. I have no regrets. We weren't a trainwreck couple to watch. We just had a lot of fun!"
Earlier this year, Lopez revealed that he and Mazza have been "practising" for a second baby.
