The X-Men and Superman Returns director is in final negotiations to work on NBC's new version of the classic sitcom, according to Deadline.
If the deal is confirmed, Singer will also sit as executive producer on the show alongside Bryan Fuller, who has been developing the project since September last year.
NBC has already confirmed that it has ordered an hour-long episode of The Munsters.
Singer is currently working on a big-screen adaptation of cult sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica alongside Band of Brothers screenwriter John Orloff.
However, his proposed remake of the John Boorman movie Excalibur was recently cancelled.
The original series of The Munsters ran on CBS between September 1964 and May 1966.
The series has already been revived once as The Munsters Today, which had a 72-episode run in syndication between 1988 and 1991. A number of films have also been made featuring the suburban family of monsters.
