Meredith Vieira has confessed that she sometimes misses her former colleagues at the Today show.

The news anchor, who left the NBC morning show in June, said that while she enjoyed her time on Today, she is looking forward to her new gig on Rock Centre with Brian Williams as it will allow her to maintain a more relaxed schedule.

"It's a little bittersweet. I miss my [Today] friends a lot, but I love my schedule now. It's a lot easier when you're getting some sleep. I get into pj's with a book in my hand and I know I don't have to get up two hours later to do the show, so that's very nice," Vieira told Parade.

"I start Rock Centre on January 1. I've already got several pieces that I'll be shooting in January, so I'm keeping myself busy, but it's a schedule that's much more flexible. For example, I was able to spend a big portion of the summer with my husband on Cape Cod."

Vieira went on to say that she is looking forward to having so much control of the content she produces on Rock Centre and has already begun generating ideas for potential stories.

"I never plan particularly for the future. I like storytelling very much. I have a background in that that goes back many years. I pretty much like all kinds of stories, so there are a few that I'm working on now that I'm not allowed to talk about, but I'm looking forward to some adventures," she explained.

"The thing about Rock Centre is that they're willing to let me do what I want to do. So I'll know it when I see it. I'm also going to be doing the Olympics in London and I'm very excited about that."

Earlier this year, Vieira confessed that she was leaving Today in order to "enjoy life" with her husband while he is still in moderately good health.
