'Homeland' tops 2012 Golden Globes TV winners

Homeland has been recognised in two of the television categories at the 2012 Golden Globes.

The Showtime series was named 'Best Television Series - Drama' on Sunday night (January 15). Meanwhile, star Claire Danes took home the prize for 'Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Drama'.

Kelsey Grammer earned 'Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama' for his freshman series Boss.

Kate Winslet took the prize for 'Best Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television' for her role in Mildred Pierce. She dedicated the award to the entire cast and crew of the miniseries.

Downton Abbey earned the award for 'Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television', beating out fellow nominees Cinema Verite, Mildred Pierce, The Hour and Too Big To Fail for the honour.

Modern Family was named 'Best Television Series - Comedy Or Musical', prompting star Sofia Vergara to give part of the cast and crew's acceptance speech in Spanish.

Laura Dern and Matt LeBlanc were surprise victors in the 'Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Comedy Or Musical' and 'Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Comedy Or Musical' respectively.

Idris Elba was recognised for his role in Luther, earning the prize for 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television'.

Finally, Jessica Lange and Peter Dinklage were honoured for their supporting roles in American Horror Story and Game of Thrones respectively.

The 2012 Golden Globes were hosted by Ricky Gervais at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.
