A group of former television executives have got together to form The Tennis Channel, a new channel launching on digital cable next year.
"Tennis is primed for its own network," Steve Bellamy, channel president, told Variety. "Tennis has one of the wealthiest audiences for advertisers."
David Meister, CEO, said that the station, which plans to launch in Summer 2002, will focus on the "hundreds of tournaments that aren't televised." It will also broadcast instructional programmes and lifestyle shows featuring high-profile tennis stars.
