'The Colbert Report' shuts down production for the week

The Colbert Report has apparently shut down production for the rest of the week.

The Comedy Central series called Wednesday's scheduled taping and later cancelled today's (February 16) episode as well, according to Mediaite.

Several fans of the show tweeted an apparent message from Comedy Central explaining that the rest of this week's Colbert Report episodes have been axed due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Comedy Central has not offered any further comment on why The Colbert Report has called off Wednesday and Thursday's episodes.

The comedian has rarely missed episodes of his series, even hosting a 2010 episode while ill.

Colbert has not addressed the matter on his official Twitter account, which has not been updated since Tuesday (February 14).

The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursdays at 11.30/10.30c on Comedy Central.
