Last week, Phillippe was announced to play the lead role of a cop who experiences a rapid career progression from officer to detective to Police Commissioner.
The Stop-Loss actor left the project after having doubts about committing to a network drama series, but the departure was amicable, reports Deadline.
Phillippe's decision to leave the show was apparently also influenced by his first primetime TV experience on another drama series, Damages.
Phillippe is set to play a Julian Assange-like character in Damages, which will be his first regular small screen acting role since the soap opera One Life to Live.
Damages will return to cable this summer.
