Lee Tergesen has joined ABC drama pilot Penoza.

The project - based on a Dutch series - will focus on the widow of an assassinated crook who adopts her late husband's criminal ways.

Tergesen has been cast as a character named Steven, according to TVLine.

In the original show, created by Pieter Bart Korthuis, Steven (Marcel Hensema) is a foot soldier for drug runner Irwan (Fedja van Huet).

Tergesen previously appeared on HBO's Oz and Lifetime's Army Wives.

He has also featured in episodes of House, Criminal Minds and Castle, and has filmed a recurring role on ABC drama The River.

Penoza is being adapted for US television by Twilight writer Melissa Rosenberg.

Other drama pilots picked up by ABC include a Beauty and the Beast update, Marc Cherry's Devious Maids and Last Resort from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan.
