Thandie Newton is in talks to play the lead role in drama series Rogue.

The ten-part thriller, in the works at DirecTV, has been written by British writer and director Matthew Parkhill (Primeval, The Caller).

Newton would star as an undercover cop who pursues a gangster when her son is killed in a drive-by shooting, according to Deadline.

The actress is best known for her roles in such films as 2000's Mission: Impossible II, 2006's The Pursuit of Happyness and 2007's Run Fatboy Run.

Rogue would mark her first series regular role, though she had a recurring part on ER between 2003 and 2009.

The drama is DirecTV's first venture into original scripted series. The broadcaster previously picked up both Friday Night Lights and Damages when the shows faced cancellation on their original networks.
