The six-part series from Greg Berlanti, Laurence Mark and Warner Horizon centres around a former First Lady's family in Washington DC.
Sigourney Weaver has already signed up to play the former First Lady Elaine Barrish, while Hinds will play her ex-husband Bud Hammond - a gifted and once-popular politician who has yet to recover from the divorce, reports TV Line.
James Wolk will play Elaine's son and Carla Gugino will assume the role of a reporter intent on ruining Barrish's career.
Sebastian Stan has also been cast, as the twin of James Wolk's character.
Ciaran Hinds can currently be seen in the sci-fi action movie John Carter.
The actor has recently appeared in The Woman in Black, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Rite and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
