The actor, who played Shane in the AMC horror show, is wanted for a role in an episode of the legal drama to air during May sweeps, according to TV Guide.
He is apparently set to appear as a character who takes a courtroom hostage when the person accused of raping and murdering his daughter is found not guilty.
Bernthal departed The Walking Dead this month when Shane was murdered by series protagonist Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in the penultimate episode of the second season.
He later said that his exit from the show, which was apparently planned from the beginning, had been "very emotional".
Bernthal has also been cast as the lead of TNT's LA Noir pilot, which also counts Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Neal McDonough (Justified), Jeremy Strong (The Good Wife) and Alexa Davalos (Clash Of The Titans) among its cast.
