Today producer Jim Bell tweeted that Seacrest will be appearing on the NBC morning show on Tuesday (April 3) to reveal "big" news.
"Tuesday morning live on the TODAY show in Studio 1A, Ryan Seacrest will make a big NBC announcement," Bell wrote.
He also teased: "Would @RyanSeacrest would have more fun doing the weather for Al [Roker] or having a cocktail in the 10am with Kathie Lee [Gifford]? What is your drink Ryan?"
Seacrest has remained tight-lipped on the nature of his announcement, but there has been speculation that he is likely to be taking an increased role on NBC programming. He currently hosts E! News for NBCUniversal and produces several reality shows for the company.
The presenter had been rumoured as a possible replacement for Matt Lauer on Today, but Lauer is apparently likely to renew his contract with the Peacock Network.
An insider has told The Hollywood Reporter that Seacrest will likely announce an NBCUniversal contract extension that will see him make frequent Today appearances and take part in Olympics coverage.
NBC and Seacrest declined to comment on the report.
Seacrest's separate American Idol deal is to expire at the end of the current season, but he has said he can't imagine his life without the reality series.
His appearance on Today on Tuesday comes on the same morning that Sarah Palin fills in for Ann Curry.
