A spinoff series for Showtime's comedy drama Californication could be in the works, according to the show's creator.

Californication stars David Duchovny as Hank Moody, a hedonistic novelist who suffers from severe writer's block. Madeleine Martin, Evan Handler, and Madeline Zima also star.

The series, which debuted in 2007, was recently picked up for its sixth season.

Entertainment Weekly reports that producers are considering a possible spinoff based around a character named Faith, who will appear in nine episodes during the next season of the show.

Executive producer Tom Kapinos says the plan is "by no means assured", and that a final decision will depend on casting the right actress to play Faith, who is described as a Catholic school girl who becomes a groupie.
