The untitled sitcom will star The West Wing's Mary McCormack as a former corporate executive who must adjust to her new role as housewife and mother.
Gordon will play her son Dylan, according to Deadline.
The 14-year-old actor replaces Aidan Potter (The Middle), who was originally cast in the part.
Shortly to reprise his role as Greg Heffley in the third Diary of a Wimpy Kid film, Gordon's past TV credits include guest roles on How I Met Your Mother and 24.
Mo Gaffney (Absolutely Fabulous) and Greg Germann (House of Lies) will also star in the new ABC pilot, from Will & Grace exec Kari Lizer.
