The Grey's Anatomy spinoff - which stars Kate Walsh as Dr Addison Montgomery - was recently moved to Tuesdays at 10pm.
"Because of the way the show ends this season, it feels to me that a renewal would best serve us," Strickland, who plays Charlotte King, told TVLine. "It's a hell of an ending."
The actress also denied that the shift in timeslot was a bad sign for the show's future.
"I'm not one to sit around and look for the worst case scenario," she explained. "We should sort of anticipate good news."
Strickland similarly argued that the debut of Scandal - the new drama from Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes - would not affect Private Practice.
"It's so funny to me, because we don't ask that question about David Kelley, or JJ Abrams, or other great showrunners that have multiple things going on," she said. "So I don't think we should ask that of Shonda."
The fifth season of Private Practice concludes on May 15 on ABC.
