American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed new details about the next season.

The FX drama's second run will feature a new cast of characters and will take place in a new location.

"It's a completely different world and has nothing to do with season one," Murphy explained at a TV Academy panel in North Hollywood.

"There's not a mention of season one. The second season is set in a completely different time period."

It was previously confirmed that Jessica Lange, who played Constance in season one, will play a major new role in the next run.

"[Season two] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica," Murphy revealed.

The showrunner also hinted that more stars from the first season could also reappear, but in radically different roles.

"There will be other people... who are not announced who will also be in it, but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season," he said.

Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe have all been confirmed to return to American Horror Story.

The series will return to FX in late 2012.
