William Petersen's new show Hurt People has been picked up by Cinemax.

The former CSI star will play Hollis Brown, a veteran hitman employed by the same crime family responsible for his wife's death.

Cinemax has now ordered a pilot, written by ex-AMC exec Peter Macmanus, reports Deadline.

Petersen will executive produce alongside Macmanus and Cynthia Chvatal (CSI). GK-TV's Graham King and Tim Headington (Camelot) are also on board.

Since departing CSI in 2009, Petersen has appeared in 2011 film Detachment with Adrien Brody and Christina Hendricks, and will star in eight-hour American Civil War mini-series To Appomattox in spring 2013.

Other projects in the works at Cinemax include a third series of action-drama Strike Back, True Blood creator Alan Ball's new drama Banshee, and an adaptation of the Transporter film series.
