'Brothers and Sisters' win for ABC

ABC's Brothers and Sisters has established itself as a firm favourite of the new US TV season with another strong performance.
Preliminary Nielsen Media Research data indicates that on the strength of both Brothers and Sisters and a ratings-reinvigorated Desperate Housewives, ABC was again the clear leader on Sunday night.
The network started well at 8pm with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which won its timeslot with 14.9m viewers and a 14% share in the adults 18-49 demographic. CBS's Amazing Race averaged 10.2m viewers and a 9% share in 18-49, down from 11.7m viewers last week but equalling its week-on-week performance in the demo.
At 9pm, Desperate Housewives led with 20.7m viewers and a 19% share in 18-49. Cold Case on CBS dipped slightly week-on-week with 13.7m viewers and a 9% 18-49 share.
One hour on, and ABC's Brothers and Sisters beat CBS in the 18-49 demo 13% to 11%, but Without A Trace pulled ahead in total viewers with 15m viewers to ABC's 13.1m.
Numbers for NBC and Fox are still to be confirmed as both networks were airing sports events live across four timezones. However, preliminary numbers have NBC averaging just under 11.5m viewers night-long with Fox averaging around 9.5m.
In a very weak last place was The CW, with Everybody Hates Chris averaging 2.4m viewers at 8pm and a 3% 18-49 share. An hour later, things got only marginally better for the fledgling network; Girlfriends maintained Chris's demo share but added 500,000 more viewers in total. The network is, due to consistently bad numbers for its Sunday night comedies, flipping its Sunday and Monday lineups.
