Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg have all been rumoured to be departing SNL when their contracts expire at the end of the current season.
SNL executive producer Michaels confirmed to reporters on Wednesday (May 2) that there will be alterations to the cast prior to the fall premiere.
"I'm not really certain myself [what the changes will be]. I know there will be some," Michaels said, according to Us Weekly. "It's just the nature of our work that no-one talks about it until the season is done. Needless to say, I'd like everyone to stay."
Former Big Gay Sketch Show actress Kate McKinnon recently joined SNL, and Michaels revealed that he expects to recruit additional new castmembers this summer.
"Every summer we go out and make the rounds of Chicago, LA and New York, and various other places they do this kind of work. And that always leads to new people on the show," he explained. "We've always been about bringing new people in."
SNL head writer and star Seth Meyers recently said he wouldn't be surprised to see Wiig, Samberg and Sudeikis leave, with Fred Armisen also suggesting that "it's time" for them to move on.
Eli Manning and Rihanna appear on this weekend's Saturday Night Live, airing at 11.30/10.30c on NBC.
