Fox TV Studios president Angela Shapiro-Mathes is said to have been very keen on the project. According to Variety, she has followed its development as a Fox feature, and been in talks with Fox Filmed Entertainment chairman, Jim Gianopulos.
Shapiro-Mathes said: "The TV series will not be exactly like (the movie or the book). The reason you loved the book and the reason you loved the movie was these were characters you really cared about in a world you wanted to learn more about."
The film's director David Frankel and the author Lauren Weisberger are said not to be involved in the TV project.
The movie took £3.3m in its debut weekend in the UK last week, and has grossed $124 in the US since it opened in the summer.
