Strong performances from Dancing With The Stars and Boston Legal led ABC to a clear win on Tuesday night.
The dance show hit season highs from 8pm to 9:30pm, with viewers no doubt tuning in to see the fallout from country singer Sara Evans' controversial departure from the series. Overall, the programme averaged 21m viewers and had a 16% share in the adults 18-49 demographic.
ABC continued doing well at 9:30pm, with Help Me Help You (UK: Living TV) averaging nearly 11m viewers and a respectable 8% 18-49 share. Boston Legal (UK: Living TV) also performed strongly, retaining 100% of its total viewers lead-in and adding a percentage point in 18-49 audience share.
CBS also had a good night, with NCIS (UK: FX) averaging 15.8m viewers and a 10% 18-49 share in the 8pm hour. The Unit (UK: Bravo) did well against Dancing's final half-hour, pulling nearly 13m viewers at 9pm. A Criminal Minds re-run (parachuted into the slot after Smith's abrupt departure) put in a respectable performance against ABC at 10pm, averaging around 10m viewers and a 8% 18-49 share.
NBC's Friday Night Lights (UK: ITV) bounced off last week's rock-bottom ratings with 6.6m viewers and a 7% 18-49 share. Law and Order: CI (UK: Five, Hallmark) bumped the network's averages up to 11m viewers and a 9% 18-49 share during the 9pm hour, while the franchise's Special Victims Unit (UK: Five, Hallmark) averaged 13m viewers and a 13% 18-49 share.
Sports coverage on Fox averaged around 10m viewers night-long, while new episodes of Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars (UK: Living TV) averaged 4m viewers.
