The 36-year-old actor signed a new deal that will see him reprise his character Greg Sanders for the show's 13th season, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Szmanda joined the series in a recurring role for the first two seasons after its 2000 debut. He was bumped to a regular cast member in the third season.
Jorja Fox and George Eads will also return for the new run.
Last month, CBS cancelled spinoff CSI: Miami but renewed CSI: New York.
"It was about keeping the flow, and Miami was the odd man out," CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said of the decision.
