The Buffy and Angel actress may become a main cast member on the ABC Family drama's second season, Variety reports.
Carpenter appeared in ten episodes of the show's first run as Ann Rebecca Sewell.
The character was revealed to be the mother of twins Emma and Sutton (Alexandra Chando) in the season one finale, hinting at a larger role in future episodes.
Carpenter's recent credits include guest spots in Supernatural and Burn Notice. She will also reprise the supporting role of Lacy in forthcoming action film sequel The Expendables 2.
The Lying Game - which also stars Helen Slater and Adrian Pasdar - was picked up for a second season by ABC Family in April.
New episodes will debut on January 2, 2013. In the UK, the series airs on 5*.
