The show has been picked up for a 13-episode order to be be screened in 2013, it was announced today.
Based on the hit Mexican telenovela Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar, the programme follows the lives of five maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, and will feature Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), Mariana Klaveno (True Blood), Brianna Brown (Homeland) and Susan Lucci (All My Children).
Lifetime has been expanding its forays into scripted drama recently, with the likes of the much talked-about The Client List, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.
The show is also to be produced by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, who recently spoke out about the under-representation of Latinos in TV and film, before going on to cite Devious Maids as an exception, noting that four out of the five maids are of Latino origin.
She continued: "It's important for us to support [these] shows as Latinos - to stop being a big number and start being a market and to aggregate our audience.
"I think the only way to increase it is to get behind the camera - you have to write it, direct it, produce it if you want to see it come into production. I think it's happening more and more."
