Showtime has given the green light to a second season of crime drama Dexter, just five weeks into its initial run.
The series stars Michael C. Hall in the lead role of Dexter, a man with homicidal tendencies who is guided by his police officer dad into the "constructive" killing of criminals who have slipped through the cracks.
"Dexter is a home run for us, both critically and in popularity," said Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt. "The show was launched at the height of all the broadcast networks' fall premieres yet instantly became our number one rated show."
The second season of twelve episodes goes into production next Spring for premiere later in 2007. The first will air in the UK on FX from the New yYear.
