The comedian received three nominations for his FX comedy series Louie, while also being handed four nods for his Live at the Beacon Theater special.
He explained that after last year's recognition for his work, he didn't expect to receive any nominations in 2012.
"I thought as I went to bed last night, I probably won't get any because last year I got a bunch and I felt like it was the show [Louie] coming into existence," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I figured people would go, 'Alright, that's enough for him, let's go back to the normal shows'."
However, he added that he wished the series was nominated for 'Best Comedy' for the work of his cast and crew. Louis CK was instead nominated for solo awards for 'Best Actor', 'Best Directing' and 'Best Writing'.
"I wish I had gotten that for the rest of my crew," he said. "This just feels selfish."
Louis CK recently revealed his excitement over upcoming guests for the third season of Louie, which include Robin Williams and Jerry Seinfeld.
