The Office executive producer Justin Spitzer has sold a new comedy project to NBC.

Spitzer has written the new ensemble series about a group of friends whose lives change during a trip to a destination wedding, states The Hollywood Reporter.

Universal Media - who agreed a deal with Spitzer last year - will produce the project.

The comedy will see Spitzer remain with NBC, where he has worked on The Office since its third season in 2006.

Justin Spitzer will executive produce, along with Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan.

NBC confirmed earlier this week that The Office will come to an end after its upcoming ninth season.

A Dwight (Rainn Wilson)-based spinoff series The Farm is also currently in the works.
