The actor - who played sharp-witted Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom - returns to NBC with new comedy Go On tonight (September 11) at 9/8c.
"I don't need to be reminded that I was on Friends - I remember... some of it, anyway," Perry joked in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
He continued: "It's fine that it follows me. I get it. But I can do other things, and I like the challenge of proving to people that my talent extends beyond putting emphasis on [the word] 'be'."
Go On - created by Friends writer Scott Silveri - sees Perry play sports DJ Ryan King, who joins a therapy group following the loss of his wife.
The 43-year-old recently dismissed rumours that his Friends co-stars would cameo on his new show, insisting that it is too early in the show's run for a "confusing" crossover.
Go On premiered with a special preview on August 8, attracting 16 million viewers. Episode two follows tonight in the show's usual Tuesday 9/8c time-slot.
