The Arizona senator appears in the sitcom's season premiere as a mentor to Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who travels to Washington DC to visit boyfriend Ben (Adam Scott).
McCain shared his enthusiasm to come on Parks and Recreation in a newly released NBC promotional video.
"It's one of my favourite shows ... I'm a fan, it's hilarious," he said. "And of course, Amy is such a talented actress. My experience with her goes back to hosting Saturday Night Live a long time ago."
McCain went on to tease that the plot of Parks and Recreation's season five opener is "very clever".
"[It's] very entertaining," he declared. "Listen, I spend a lot of time with local elected officials from my state, they come because they need the assistance and the federal largess that we are able to help them with."
