Guillermo del Toro is developing a new thriller series with HBO.

Nutshell Studies is a "Hitchcockian" drama about a 1950s housewife who solves brutal murders, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sara Gran (Southland) will script the television adaptation and executive produce alongside Del Toro. The Pan's Labyrinth director will helm the pilot, based on the book by Corinne May Botz, who serves as consultant.

Del Toro is also developing a long-mooted Hulk TV series for ABC, with a pilot episode said to be undergoing rewrites.

His next movie release is the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim, which the Mexican filmmaker was reportedly forced to post-convert into 3D.

Other pilots in the works at HBO include comedy Hello Ladies starring Stephen Merchant, a murder drama from Heat director Michael Mann and a social media satire from Veep's Armando Iannucci.
