NBC has far outstripped its broadcast network rivals in the Writers' Guild nominations, released ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled for February 11.
The network racked up 13 nominations among the primetime and late-night categories, with strong showings by The Office, which received 3 nominations, along with Studio 60 and 30 Rock, which each picked up 2. By far the best-performing NBC show, freshman cult hit Heroes earned 1 nomination, as did the critically praised but ratings challenged Friday Night Lights.
Fox received its usual boost from The Simpsons, which obtained 4 nominations, while HBO and ABC each clocked up 6 for primetime shows.
Outside the main primetime categories, CBS dominated the daytime serials category with The Young and the Restless, As the World Turns and Guiding Light all receiving nods, and PBS cleaned up in the documentary categories.
