The Fox network has plans to move ahead with a new reality show about business layoffs.

The show, titled Does Someone Have To Go?, features dysfunctional companies confronting employees facing potential dismissal.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox has finalised a deal for four episodes of the hour-long show.

The programme was in development in 2009 under the title Someone's Gotta Go, conceived of as a corporate take on Survivor.

However, the idea received some backlash from critics who deemed the premise too cruel.

There is currently no set premiere date for the reality series.
