O'Donnell slated for 'ching chong' comments

Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell has been heavily criticised for mocking Chinese dialect.
On her show The View on December 5, O'Donnell made reference to actor Danny De Vito's recent drunken appearance making the headlines throughout the globe. She said: "You know, you can imagine in China it's like 'ching chong, ching chong chong, Danny DeVito, ching chong chong chong, drunk, "`The View", ching chong'."
An organisation that represents journalists from ethnic and racial minorities - Unity: Journalists of Colour Inc - believe her actions to be disgraceful and that the broadcasting network condone racial slurs by screening the remarks. On their website they urge the show's creator Barbara Walters to "publicly acknowledge that O'Donnell's remarks were patently offensive".
44-year-old O'Donnell, rumoured to be landing a regular role on Nip/Tuck, has already delivered an on-air apology to viewers. She stated: "To say 'ching chong' to someone is very offensive, and some Asian people have told me it's as bad as the n-word. Which I was like, 'Really? I didn't know that.' "
