Carole Simpson suspended from ABC News
Published Saturday, Oct 27 2001, 12:02 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Carole Simpson, ABC News weekend anchor, has been suspended after making two false statements about a letter containing anthrax mailed to the network.
Simpson told an audience at the International Women's Media Foundation on October 16 that a letter containing the lethal spores had been sent to her colleague Cokie Roberts from Trenton, New Jersey, which was incorrect.
She also gave away details concerning the 7-month old son of an ABC employee who was exposed to the disease, despite a network briefing about the situation.
Chris Bury will replace Simpson until her return in the first week of November.
