The remake, starring Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Adepero Oduye and Jill Scott, is based on the 1987 play by Robert Harling.

Focusing on the story of a group of Southern women in Louisiana, the story is perhaps best known for the 1989 film of the same name, starring Julia Roberts and Sally Field.
Deadline reports that Victoria White, producer of the 1989 film, filed the suit earlier this week claiming breach of contract and seeking screen credits and a portion of the television movie's net profits.
She also sought injunction to block the October premiere of the film.
A Los Angeles judge made a ruling this morning (October 6) tossing out the request.
Lifetime's remake of Steel Magnolias will premiere this Sunday (October 7) as planned.
