In a new promotional tactic, the episodes are due to be released on DVD in the US - together with a twelve-minute preview of episode five - the day after they are first broadcast.
It is believed that the episodes leaked on the net were "ripped" from a pre-release copy of the DVD.
On one torrent site alone, more than 20,000 people had already downloaded the files.
24 season 6 premieres in the UK on Sky One on Sunday, January 21.
