'Primeval' star thanks Billie for role
Published Sunday, Feb 4 2007, 11:47 GMT | By Daniel Kilkelly
Primeval's Hannah Spearritt has admitted that she has Billie Piper to thank for her role on the show.
The former S Club 7 star believes that Piper's success on Doctor Who paved the way for other pop stars to make the transition from music to TV.
Spearritt plays reptile expert Abby Maitland on the new ITV1 series and is seen fighting time-travelling dinosaurs.
"When I first got the script, I thought: 'I'm never going to get this. This is too cool and they're never going to want to cast me.' I felt really nervous going for the audition but I gave myself a good talking to and gave it my best shot," Hannah told the Daily Star Sunday.
"I really wanted to nail it but I was feeling very unlucky at the time and never once thought I'd get the part of Abby. I felt very privileged that I was asked. As a pop star-turned actress, Billie Piper really opened doors for things like this. I don't think I would have even got an audition had she not come along. I would love to emulate her success. So if people compare me to her then it's a compliment."
