Murdoch to launch CNBC rival

Rupert Murdoch has confirmed that News Corp will launch a business news channel in America in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Fox Business Channel will be an extension of the Fox News brand and will directly compete with long-established channels including CNBC and Bloomberg. Day-to-day operations at the channel will be the responsibility of Fox News Channel executive VP Kevin Magee, with content overseen by senior VP and managing editor of business news Neil Cavuto. Cavuto will continue as an on-air personality on both Fox News and Fox Business.

"We have long considered the business television market to be underserved," said Murdoch. "Having built Fox News into a cable news leader and a cultural phenomenon against all expectations, I’m confident that Roger Ailes and his team can do the same in business news. I look forward to introducing new competition and a new voice to the business news arena."
