Tom Hanks accidentally swore during a live appearance on Good Morning America on Friday (October 19).
The actor was prompted by Good Morning America guest host Elizabeth Vargas to demonstrate an accent used in his new film Cloud Atlas, when the offending incident occurred.
Hanks appeared to adopt a Liverpool accent and then accidentally uttered the word "f**king", before embarrassingly covering his mouth with his hands.
"We are so sorry Good Morning America," Vargas immediately responded, with Hanks adding: "Man oh Man! I'm sorry – I slipped into a brand of acting."
He added: "Next time I appear on the show there will be a seven-second delay!"
Hanks later made light of the incident on Twitter, writing: "For GMA, spesh kowtow for Lizzie V for WHAT DID I JUST SAY??? Oops! In character! Sorry! Hanx!"
Moral values group the Parents Television Council (PTC) took issue with the incident in a post on its own Twitter page.
"Why would ABC allow the F-bomb on #GMA?," a post read on the PTC's official account.
Vargas has not yet referenced the incident on her social media accounts.
