David Letterman was forced to present to an empty audience last night (October 29) while New York prepared itself for Hurricane Sandy.
The Late Show host arrived to a strange reception of silence after he sent his audience home for their own safety.
During his opening monologue - which he read to his band and crew - he joked: "I'm no safety expert, but if I were at home, I'd be boarding up my television."
His top-ten list of the night covered rejected names of the hurricane, including 'Count Dampula', 'Power Outage Palooza' and 'Wetzilla'.
Jimmy Fallon followed suit by also presenting to an empty crowd, while also appearing on the streets of New York City on his way to the studio.
