The actor developed an ear infection after flying with his daughters to New York City to visit their mother Denise Richards over the weekend, reports TMZ.
Intense ear pain apparently caused Sheen to miss work on Anger Management on Tuesday (October 30), leading some in the press to speculate about renewed personal problems.
The actor famously sparked a media firestorm in early 2011, when a dispute between himself and Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre led to his firing.
Sheen is reportedly now back at work on Anger Management, having been present at a table read on Thursday (November 1).
Anger Management has proven a solid hit for FX and was recently given a 100-episode order.
Fox-TV and Debmar also recently reached an agreement to syndicate Anger Management beginning in September 2014.
